On the occasion of the King’s Birthday Honours, prominent Canberra accountant and community leader Hieu Huy “Harry” Hoang has been awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in recognition of his outstanding service to the Canberra community.

At 42, Mr Hoang is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Tailored Accounts, a thriving accountancy practice he established in 2008. Alongside his professional achievements, he has dedicated more than a decade to community service and leadership across a range of local and national initiatives.

Mr Hoang currently serves as ACT State Chapter President of the Vietnam – Australia Scholars and Experts Association (VASEA). His contributions to the community are wide-ranging and include mentoring roles with the Mill House Social Enterprise Accelerator, Innovation ACT, and the Griffin Accelerator Program. He also delivered pro-bono support to Disaster Relief Australia for 12 months.

Demonstrating a commitment to strengthening cultural and professional networks, Mr Hoang founded the Canberra Vietnamese Golf Association in 2016 and the business group Vietnamese Business in Canberra. He is a former chair and an active volunteer with Viet Melody, a community arts initiative promoting Vietnamese culture.

In addition to his grassroots efforts, Mr Hoang contributes to broader business and diplomatic networks as a Committee Member of the Australian China Business Council since 2018. He also founded Accountant Change in 2017 to support innovation in the accounting industry.

His professional affiliations include membership in the Institute of Public Accountants, the Institute of Company Directors, and CPA Australia.

Mr Hoang’s service has been widely recognised. Among his accolades are:

  • ACT Member of the Year, Institute of Public Accountants

  • Australian Business Awards Recipient (2015)

Reflecting on the honour, Mr Hoang expressed gratitude for the opportunities Australia has provided him and reiterated his commitment to giving back: “Canberra is more than home”.
