On the morning of 28 October 2025, a thematic seminar titled “Innovation and Efficiency: Perspectives from Agricultural Investment” was held through the collaboration of the National Innovation Center (NIC), the Ministry of Finance, the Crawford School of Public Policy at the Australian National University (ANU), and the Vietnam-Australia Scholars and Experts Association (VASEA).
The seminar aimed to present research findings on the effectiveness of agricultural investment in Vietnam, provide a platform for discussing innovation trends, and propose strategic directions for restructuring and improving investment efficiency in the coming period. The event brought together experts, researchers, policymakers, and representatives from Vietnam’s agricultural business sector.
In the opening remarks, a representative from NIC emphasized the effective cooperation between Vietnam and Australia in agricultural development, highlighting the central role of NIC and the Crawford School as key facilitators of innovation initiatives in agricultural production, governance, and investment between the two countries.
Professor Janine O’Flynn, Director of the Crawford School of Public Policy, underscored the strategic importance of agricultural investment for inclusive growth, sustainability, and economic resilience in Vietnam. She noted that the effectiveness of agricultural investment serves as a critical scientific foundation for public policy formulation, aiming to optimize resource allocation and promote sustainable development.
During the thematic sessions, experts from ANU shared insights on the significance of agricultural investment within Vietnam’s macroeconomic context, assessed the status of public investment during the 2021–2025 period, and presented findings on investment efficiency. Speakers also discussed lessons learned, ranging from macro-level policy design to practical implementation at the community and enterprise levels.
The panel discussion featured contributions from experts and policymakers representing the Institute of Strategy and Policy for Agriculture and Environment, the Institute of Policy and Strategy for Agricultural and Rural Development, the Central Economic Commission, Vietnam National University, and the Vietnam Organic Agriculture Association. Discussions focused on key factors shaping agricultural investment in the new era, current challenges and bottlenecks, and strategic solutions for restructuring investment, maximizing efficiency, ensuring food security, fostering sustainable agriculture, and strengthening climate resilience.
Participants reached a consensus that, to achieve growth targets and promote inclusive and sustainable development, Vietnam must intensify agricultural investment. This includes restructuring public investment to focus on regions and sectors with competitive advantages and high value-added potential, aligned with green transformation, scientific and technological innovation, and enhanced competitiveness. Public investment should serve as a catalyst for attracting private sector and societal resources.
The seminar is part of a broader collaborative initiative between NIC, the Ministry of Finance, and the Crawford School (ANU), with support from the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR). The event contributes to strengthening research, investment, and agricultural development cooperation between Vietnam and Australia, aiming toward an efficient, sustainable, and globally competitive agricultural sector.
