Dr Van-Hau Trieu is an Associate Professor and Discipline Group Chair of Information Systems and Business Analytics at Deakin University. She brings over 20 years of experience in teaching, research, and academic leadership in digital innovation, with a focus on the effective and responsible digital technologies for individual, organisational, and societal benefit.

Her research makes a substantial contribution to understanding how technological advancement can be aligned with meaningful impact. Her research agenda is centred on the effective and responsible use of digital technologies across diverse contexts, including supporting organisations to realise business value, empowering women, and advancing outcomes for vulnerable and underrepresented communities. Her work also addresses key issues such as cyberbullying prevention, digital inclusion, and the use of technology to mitigate migrant worker exploitation. She has contributed to impactful interdisciplinary initiatives, including the development of the Australian Miscarriage, a digital platform designed to support women experiencing miscarriage.

Van-Hau currently serves as Co-President of the Victoria Chapter of the Vietnam – Australia Scholars & Experts Association (VASEA). She has also been an active member and contributor to the Association for Information Systems Women’s Network (AIS Women’s Network), supporting initiatives that advance women in the information systems discipline, since 2011.

She has received numerous prestigious international and national awards, including the 2017 ACM SIGMIS Doctoral Dissertation Award, 2023 AIS Early Career Award, Deakin’s 2022 Vice-Chancellor’s Award for Outstanding Contribution to Research and Innovation, and International Education Association of Australia (IEAA) Best Practice Award in 2021.

James Nguyen 1

Mr. Son (James) NGUYEN

Mr. Son (James) Nguyen is a technology entrepreneur with over two decades of experience working across Australia, New Zealand, and Vietnam in areas including software engineering, SaaS platforms, blockchain applications, digital transformation, and innovation-driven ventures. He has founded and led several technology and investment companies operating internationally, focusing on building scalable digital solutions and fostering cross-border collaboration.

James holds a Bachelor of Software Engineering from Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and an MBA from Solvay Brussels School of Economics and Management (Belgium). He is currently pursuing doctoral research at the University of Otago (New Zealand), focusing on the Verified Relational Endorsement Framework (VREF) — a blockchain-based model designed to enhance transparency and trust in professional evaluation systems.

Beyond his entrepreneurial and research activities, James is committed to contributing to the development of the global Vietnamese intellectual and professional community. He is particularly interested in strengthening connections between academia, industry, and the broader innovation ecosystem, enabling scholars, experts, and entrepreneurs to collaborate more effectively and translate knowledge into practical impact. Through his involvement with VASEA, James hopes to support knowledge exchange, mentorship, and cross-border collaboration between Australia and Vietnam, helping foster a vibrant network of Vietnamese scholars, experts, and business leaders.

Linh Nguyen 1

Dr. Linh NGUYEN

Co-President – Government & Policy / Head of Finance & Resources

Dr. Linh Nguyen is an academic leader and finance educator with over 20 years of experience spanning higher education, financial institutions, and international capacity-building initiatives. She is currently a Lecturer and Program Director of the Master of Applied Finance at the University of Melbourne, where she leads curriculum development, strategic program positioning, and industry engagement.

Her work is recognised for innovative curriculum design, strong industry integration, and the responsible adoption of emerging technologies, including generative AI, in finance education. She has extensive experience building partnerships across academia and industry, and has contributed to major international education initiatives, including European Commission-funded Erasmus+ projects involving multi-country collaboration across Europe and Asia.

Prior to joining the University of Melbourne, Linh served as Dean of the School of Banking at UEH University, where she led academic governance, program development, and international partnerships. Across her leadership roles, she has demonstrated a strong capacity to coordinate multidisciplinary teams, align diverse stakeholders, and deliver impactful education initiatives within complex institutional environments.

Beyond her institutional roles, Linh has a longstanding commitment to community building, mentorship, and professional network development. Her work reflects a dedication to strengthening connections between academia, industry, and the broader community, particularly across Australia, Europe, and Asia.

As Co-President of the VASEA Victoria State Chapter, Linh is committed to fostering a vibrant and inclusive community of Vietnamese scholars and professionals. She aims to strengthen intellectual exchange, promote collaborative initiatives, and support mentorship pathways between established and emerging members. Her vision focuses on enhancing member engagement, facilitating meaningful academic and professional events, and strengthening connections between the Victoria Chapter and the broader VASEA network.

Thai Vu 1

Dr. Thai VU 

Vice President – Research & Education / Head of Events & Programs

Dr. Thai Vu is a casual Research Fellow at Deakin University in Melbourne, Australia. He was previously a Dean at Vietnamese-American Vocational Training College and a Lecturer at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in Ho Chi Minh City (USSH–HCM).

Thai earned a Ph.D. in Higher Education from Curtin University (Perth), with a focus on international higher education. He was awarded an Australian Government Research Training Program (RTP) Scholarship for his doctoral studies. Thai also holds a Master of TESOL and a Bachelor of English Linguistics and Literature from the USSH-HCM.

Thai has diverse experience as a program and project manager specializing in international higher education and workforce preparation, particularly in enhancing international students’ employability, study-to-work transition, and lifelong learning. His work seeks to generate evidence-based policy and practice recommendations to promote inclusion and equity in international education, strengthen the education–employment–migration nexus, and support workforce diversity.

Thai has engaged in international academic exchange and knowledge dissemination, serving as a Guest Speaker at Ohio State University (USA), an Exchange Scholar at the University of Findlay (USA), an Inter-Port Lecturer for the University of Virginia (USA), and a Guest Speaker at Education Services Australia.

As a Vice President of the Victoria State Chapter of the Vietnamese Australian Scholars and Experts Association (VASEA), Thai is committed to contributing to the advancement of strategic collaboration and partnerships between Australia and Vietnam, particularly in his areas of expertise.

Ngan Tran 1

Ms. Ngan TRAN

Vice President – Industry & Entrepreneurship / Head of PR & Communications

Ms. Ngan Ngan is a registered Australian and New Zealand Trademark Attorney and the Director of Maygust Trademark Attorneys®, an intellectual property (IP) practice specialising in brand protection, trademark strategy, and IP management across Australia and New Zealand. With over 10 years of experience in IP, she has supported clients across a wide range of industries in trademark protection, portfolio management, and cross-border filings. Her work focuses on helping businesses build IP strategies aligned with long-term brand development and international expansion.

Ngan regularly collaborates with overseas trademark agents and assists international businesses entering and operating in the Australian market, ensuring clarity, efficiency, and strategic direction in cross-border matters. She is also the founder of the IP Lovers® community, where she shares practical insights on IP, branding, and the evolving relationship between law, technology, and creativity through writing, webinars, and professional discussions.

She holds a Master of Laws in IP from Queensland University of Technology and a Bachelor of Laws from Ho Chi Minh City University of Law. Ngan is also the author of the book “Tôi đi bảo hộ nhãn hiệu,” published in August 2023.

Duc Thanh Nguyen 1

Dr. Duc-Thanh NGUYEN

Vice President – Government & Policy / Head of Platform & Operations

Dr. Duc Thanh Nguyen is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Information Technology, Deakin University, Australia. Dr Nguyen’s research lies in Computer Vision, a sub-filed of Artificial Intelligence (AI), with applications in robotics, camera-based surveillance systems, 3D vision and virtual reality. His research has been published in major venues in the field such as CVPR, ICCV, ECCV, AAAI. Dr Nguyen is currently an Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Multimedia, a premium journal in AI. Dr Nguyen has attracted and managed competitive national/international research funding with a total income over $3.5 mil AUD for research in 3D Computer Vision and AI for wildlife conservation.
