Viet Nam-Australia Tech-Connect Forum to accelerate collaboration in technology, innovation and education
Sydney forum connected government, research, education and industry leaders under the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership of the two countries.
On 10 August 2026 in Sydney, the Vietnam-Australia TechConnect Forum 2026 brought together senior government representatives, universities, research organisations and businesses from both countries at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) on 10 August 2026. The Forum advanced practical cooperation in science and technology, innovation, investment, education and training.
Organised by the Vietnam–Australia Scholars and Experts Association (VASEA), in partnership with the Government of Vietnam (Ministries of Science and Technology, Foreign Affairs, Education and Training, and Finance) and Becamex, the Forum sought to strengthen collaboration under the Vietnam–Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. It also created new pathways to translate research, expertise and technological innovation into investment, commercialisation, and shared economic and social impact.
The Forum opened with a high-level plenary chaired by Vietnam’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, featuring an opening address by Vietnam’s Minister of Science and Technology. The plenary also featured remarks by H.E. Mr. Tô Lâm, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam and President of Vietnam, and Australia’s Assistant Ministers for Immigration and for Foreign Affairs and Trade.
The high-level proceedings also included a joint tour of an exhibition showcasing achievements in Vietnam–Australia cooperation in science, technology and innovation, followed by the exchange of cooperation agreements and the announcement of new bilateral initiatives.
Connecting ideas, expertise and opportunity
A thematic session, co-chaired by Vietnam’s Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Finance, and Ministry of Education and Training, focused on future-ready cooperation across education, science, technology and innovation. Distinguished speakers included the President of Vietnam National University, Hanoi; the Director General of the National Foundation for Science and Technology Development (NAFOSTED); and the Chief Executive Officer of Austrade. The session also featured the Aus4Innovation program, highlighting its role in strengthening innovation partnerships between Vietnam and Australia.
A panel discussion moderated by Professor Nghiem Duc Long, President of VASEA, explored opportunities to strengthen Vietnam’s higher education and skills ecosystem, expand bilateral research and science and technology cooperation, and accelerate technology commercialisation and the translation of research into market-ready solutions.
| “This forum is about turning the strength of the Viet Nam-Australia relationship into practical connections – linking ideas with expertise, research with industry, and innovation with investment. By bringing government, universities, researchers and businesses into one conversation, we can create enduring partnerships that deliver benefits for both countries.”
