This year has been a remarkable journey for VASEA, marked by several significant activities and milestones. Below are some key highlights:

IN AUSTRALIA

  1. Prime Minister of Vietnam’s Official Visit

VASEA played an active role during the official visit of Vietnam’s Prime Minister, His Excellency (H.E.) Pham Minh Chinh, to Australia from March 7–9, 2024. Key contributions included:

    • Signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between VASEA and Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST). The agreement, witnessed by Vietnam’s Minister of Science and Technology, the Honourable Mr. Huynh Thanh Dat, was formalized in Melbourne.
    • Participating in major forums, such as the Australia-Vietnam Business Forum and the Australia-Vietnam Education Forum.
    • Hosting a special two-hour meeting with Prime Minister H.E. Pham Minh Chinh and five Ministers from the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET), Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST), Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI), Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), and the Government Office.
  1. Collaboration with Vietnam

VASEA hosted several working sessions with senior colleagues from the Government of Vietnam, including:

    • The Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI) delegation, led by Minister Nguyen Chi Dung.
    • Delegation from Ho Chi Minh City People committee, led by Chairman Phan Van Mai.
  1. Oversea Vietnamese Summit in Hanoi

VASEA presented a keynote and several presentations at the Overseas Vietnamese Summit in Aug 2024 in Hanoi.

  1. “Love-to-Love” Fundraising Campaign

In collaboration with the ASIF Foundation, VASEA organized the “Love-to-Love” fundraising campaign to support communities affected by Typhoon No. 3 Yagi from September 13–23, 2024.

    • The campaign raised AUD 22,215.78 through the GiveNow platform, which was matched by the ASIF Foundation, resulting in a total of AUD 44,431.56 (equivalent to VND 736,230,949).
    • These funds were directly transferred to the “Tấm Lòng Việt” Fund under Vietnam Television (VTV) to assist disaster recovery efforts.
  1. VASEA Seminars:

VASEA organised several contemporary and practical seminars for VASEA Members and guests including:

    • Update the Federal Budget 2024 – 2025 and important text policy changes;
    • Tips and Tricks for Grant Writing;
    • A series of Job-Ready Journey in collaboration with TET.
  1. Networking Events:

VASEA organised State Chapter Networking events to bring together its valued members for knowledge sharing and community building. These events were held on the 3rd November in Victoria, 23rd November in Queensland, 1st December in Western Australia and 28th December 2024 in New South Wales.

IN VIETNAM

  1. Roadshow Activities in Hanoi (September 2024)

These events fostered opportunities for future collaboration, including:

    • Participating in ministerial-level discussions with MPI and MOST on education and training in semiconductor production and other science and technology fields.
    • Appearing on VTV’s live program “Vietnam Fulcrum” on September 15, 2024.
    • Co-organizing the “Promoting Green Innovation in Agriculture” conference in partnership with the Vietnam National Innovation Centre (NIC), an agency of MPI.
    • Visiting the Australian Embassy in Hanoi, AusTrade, and Aus4Skills to express VASEA’s commitment to strengthening bilateral ties.
    • Hosting the event “Connecting Minds – Bridging Cultures”, which brought together scholars, experts, professionals, and leaders from Vietnam and Australia.
  1. Strategic Partnerships

VASEA signed multiple Memoranda of Understanding to strengthen cooperation with:

    • Vietnam National Innovation Centre (NIC).
    • Australasia Social Impact Foundation (ASIF).

In reflecting on our work over the last 12 months, it is essential to recognise the unwavering commitment from the Board of Directors, the continual support and contribution from VASEA Members, and also very importantly, generous financial support from VASEA sponsors.
