Amid the festive atmosphere welcoming the Year of the Snake 2025, on February 9, the Vietnamese Embassy in Australia hosted a community gathering, bringing the warmth of the traditional Tet holiday to overseas Vietnamese. This event provided an opportunity for the Vietnamese community in Australia to reconnect, share experiences, and support one another during the New Year, strengthening community bonds and deepening their love for their homeland.
The Executive Board of the Association of Vietnamese Intellectuals and Experts in Australia (VASEA) was honored to participate in this meaningful event.
In his address, Vietnam’s Ambassador to Australia, Mr. Pham Hung Tam, expressed his joy and pride in witnessing the continued growth of Vietnam and the ever-strengthening Vietnam-Australia relationship. He highlighted Vietnam’s achievements in 2024, despite global challenges, including stable political and social conditions, secured national defense, and an impressive economic growth rate exceeding 7%, positioning Vietnam among the world’s top 35 economies. Notably, Vietnam ranked 54th in the 2024 World Happiness Report—an 11-place improvement from 2023—placing it among the 10 happiest countries in Asia. With this solid foundation, Vietnam is poised to enter a new era of dynamic development.
The Ambassador also emphasized the remarkable progress in Vietnam-Australia relations, particularly the elevation of their ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership during Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh’s official visit to Australia in March 2024. Alongside this diplomatic milestone, the Vietnamese community in Australia continues to play a vital role in fostering prosperity and bilateral cooperation. Among the many active organizations, VASEA has been recognized for its significant contributions. In acknowledgment of its efforts in strengthening the Vietnamese community in Australia and enhancing the friendship between the two nations, the VASEA Executive Board was awarded a Certificate of Merit by the Ambassador.
In the spirit of celebration, attendees and international friends enjoyed a feast of traditional Vietnamese Tet delicacies, immersed themselves in the enchanting melodies of Bac Ninh Quan Ho—a UNESCO-recognized world cultural heritage since 2009—and raised their glasses in hopes of a new year filled with health, happiness, and prosperity. The event reinforced a shared commitment to a flourishing Vietnam and an ever-growing Vietnam-Australia partnership.
