The President and Secretary General representing VASEA attended the reception on the occasion of the 78th anniversary of the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (September 2, 1945 – September 2, 2023) and the 50th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Australia (1973-2023) organised by the Consulate General of Vietnam in Sydney.

At the ceremony, the President and Secretary General representing VASEA had a cordial discussion with the Vietnamese Ambassador to Australia Nguyen Tat Thanh and with Independent MP Dai Le – Federal Member for Fowler.

Speaking at the ceremony, Consul General Nguyen Dang Thang said Australia is not only one of the first Western countries to establish diplomatic relations with Vietnam but has also taken the lead in promoting multifaceted relations with Vietnam such as opening the first university, bank, and law firm in Vietnam. Australia has supported Vietnam to build some of the most critical infrastructure such as undersea telecommunications cables, satellite station, and North-South high voltage 500 kV power transmission lines.

Bilateral relations between Vietnam and Australia have developed strongly over the last few years. Vietnam and Australia became strategic partners of each other in 2018. The two countries have also become each other’s 10th largest trading partner with a total two-way turnover of nearly 16 billion AUD in 2022. The two countries have seen significant cooperation in education and training, digital transformation, science, technology transfer has been developed immensely.
