Today in Hanoi on June 30, 2023, within the framework of the program to strengthen economic cooperation between the Governments of Australia and Vietnam (Australia-Vietnam Enhanced Economic Engagement Grant-AVEG), to support organizations and businesses of two countries to seek opportunities for cooperation, science and technology transfer, the Ministry of Science and Technology of Vietnam (MOST) and the Vietnamese Australian Scholars and Experts Association (VASEA) jointly organize a forum “Road to decarbonisation: From energy productivity to alternative energy resources”.
This event is part of a series of activities to strengthen cooperation between government agencies, universities and especially businesses of the two countries. At the same time, upholding the message towards the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Australia, the two governments have prioritized strengthening sustainable economic cooperation.
The programme was honoured to have the participation of Mr. Andrew Goledzinowski, Australian Ambassador to Vietnam and Associate Professor Dr. Bui The Duy, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology of Vietnam, and representatives of leaders and officials of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, of the Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) and universities in Vietnam, and Australian businesses and research institutions such as the Australian National Council on Energy Efficiency and Conservation, the Australia Energy Efficiency Council, ETLabs specializing digital transformation and energy solutions, TransGlobal Education and Training (TET) and University of Technology Sydney (UTS).
Effective measures, large-scale, applicable to businesses as well as households to save electricity, to improve energy efficiency, to ensure energy security, to reduce production costs, to reduce CO2 emissions, new energy resources and fuels that are sustainable and have no impact on the environment, new policies and management tools to stimulate competition are applied for the first time, digital transformation application in energy management, profit sharing business model in energy project investment…. are solutions, technology and content, expected to be introduced at the Forum.
“I want Vietnam to become one of the top partners with Australia,” said Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese during his two-day official visit to Vietnam in early June 2023. In parallel with in-depth economic cooperation and investment, the two governments agree on transboundary issues, especially sustainable development and climate change combat. The two countries have signed a series of agreements, including a $105 million package to help Vietnam remove carbon from the economy, ensure energy security, and promote trade cooperation at ministerial level.
Within the framework of cooperation between Vietnam and Australia, the Vietnamese Australia Scholars and Experts Association (VASEA) (vasea.org.au) has actively contributed to cooperation between the two countries in various portfolios including science and technology transfer, international education, training and relations, and policies, trade and investment for public and private sectors. VASEA is an official organization established at the end of 2022, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Australia and following the official visit to Australia of National Assembly Chairwoman Vuong Dinh Hue from 30 November 2022 to 3 December 2022. VASEA represents Vietnamese scholars and industry experts living and working in Australia to enhance meetings, academic exchanges, leadership and management skills, and contribute to promoting educational cooperation, science, trade and investment and contribute to the development of Australia and Vietnam.
This forum contributes to promoting economic cooperation between the two countries as well as the resonance of the innovation cooperation program between Vietnam and Australia. We hope that more such universities as University of Technology Sydney (UTS) will cooperate with Vietnamese universities and Vietnamese businesses to establish partnerships on innovation, technology transfer and socio-economic development between the two countries.
